Who we are

We are the Scottish Women’s Walking Group—a growing, grassroots community of women united by a love of walking, the need for connection, and the power of simply putting one foot in front of the other.

It all started with a simple idea: what if there was a free, friendly space where you could meet up for a walk with other women, breathe some fresh air, and not feel alone? No pressure. No judgement. Just real-life connection in a world that often feels isolating and overwhelming. Founded by one woman with a deep belief in the healing power of nature, this group has grown into something truly beautiful.

Maybe you're here for your mental health. Maybe you're rebuilding your confidence. Maybe you're just tired of walking alone. Whatever brings you to us, you’re not the only one—and you’re more than welcome here.

We walk in cities, along beaches, up hills, and through forests. Sometimes we chat non-stop; sometimes we just walk in companionable silence. Sometimes it’s a small group; sometimes it’s a big one. Sometimes we meet as strangers and leave with friends. Every walk is different, but the feeling is the same: a sense of belonging, a breath of calm, and a reminder that we’re not alone in this world.

Our group is free to join and always will be. We believe that walking should be accessible to every woman, no matter her background, age, size, pace, or story. That’s why we keep things flexible, friendly, and open. No sign-up fees, no complicated rules, and no need to explain yourself. If you want to walk, we want to walk with you.

We’re especially passionate about supporting women who might not usually feel comfortable in traditional walking or fitness groups. If you’re anxious, neurodivergent, navigating grief, recovering from illness, feeling isolated, or just needing a bit of peace—you’re not alone. So many of us have been there. There’s no need to mask, perform, or pretend here. You get to just be you.

Over time, our members have created something truly special: a supportive, down-to-earth, uplifting space where lifelong friendships begin and everyday courage grows. It’s not just about walking—it’s about belonging.

So if you’ve been thinking, “Maybe I’ll go to one of those walks someday,” Pop your shoes on, grab a jacket (and maybe a snack), and come walk with us.

How to join us

At SWWG, we do things a little differently—and that’s what makes our community so special. We don’t have walk leaders or guided walks. We’re just a group of women who love walking and meeting up, like you would with a group of good friends. In our welcoming community, all members have the wonderful opportunity to host a walk that suits their own personal abilities and preferences. Whether it’s a gentle local stroll or a bigger adventure, it’s entirely up to you. This flexible, member-led approach means we can all enjoy walks that suit our abilities, schedules, and interests.

We arrange all of our walks through our private groups on Facebook. Joining one of our Facebook groups, which are listed below, is the only way to participate in our walks and to connect with our fantastic group of members. You can join as many of our groups as you like.
