Frequently Asked Questions
I don’t have a Facebook account, can I join your group without one?
At the moment, no, our group is run entirely on Facebook, and all our events, walk sign-ups, safety information, and member discussions etc happen there. We simply don’t have the resources to duplicate everything across other platforms, so Facebook is the only way to access the community and take part in walks.
The good news? You don’t need to share your whole life on Facebook to be part of SWWG. Many of our members have set up a simple, private Facebook profile purely to join the group. You can use minimal details (just your name and a profile photo if you wish), adjust your privacy settings so you control what’s visible, and skip adding friends or posting if you don’t want to.
It’s quick to set up and gives you full access to everything SWWG offers - walks, meetups, and the amazing support from thousands of like-minded women.
Can I bring my dog?
Many walks are dog-friendly, but not all. It depends on location, livestock, and the comfort level of the walk host. The event description should always say if dogs are welcome and if leads are required.
Do I have to pay to join or attend walks?
Nope! Membership is free, and our walks are all hosted by volunteer members. Occasionally, a walk might include a ticketed attraction or may involve travelling on a boat or bus, but this should always be made clear in the event description. You just cover your own travel, food, and any optional extras.
How fit do I need to be?
We welcome all fitness levels. Each walk should include details about distance, terrain, and pace so you can decide what’s right for you - from gentle social strolls to full day hikes.
And here’s the best part: anyone in SWWG can host a walk. So if you don’t see something that suits your pace or fitness level, you’re welcome to organise one yourself and others will join you.
Can I bring a friend or family member who isn’t a member?
They’ll need to join SWWG on Facebook first. This keeps our walks safe and ensures everyone agrees to our group rules before taking part.
Are children allowed on walks?
No. Our main SWWG walks are for women aged 18+ only. This keeps the focus on adult conversation, connection, and giving members a chance to enjoy child-free time. We do have a separate SWWG Mums group for those who want to organise child friendly walks.
Do I need special walking clothes?
For short, easy walks, comfy trainers and weather-appropriate clothing are usually fine. For longer or hill walks, sturdy footwear, layers, and waterproofs are essential.
