Scotland’s largest community for women who love walking
Scottish Women’s Walking Group is a free community of over 30,000 women across Scotland who organise walks together through our regional Facebook groups.
How Scottish Women’s Walking Group Works
Scottish Women’s Walking Group is a friendly community where women organise walks together through our regional Facebook groups across Scotland. To get started, simply join the Facebook group for your area and introduce yourself. Once you’re in the group you can head over to the Events tab, where members regularly post walks they are planning. When you see a walk that interests you, you can respond by selecting Going, Maybe, or Can’t Go, and you can also chat with others in the comments if you have questions about the route, car sharing or meeting point.
SWWG is not a traditional walking club and there are no official walk leaders. The group works because members organise walks themselves. If there’s a route you enjoy doing or there’s a new route you fancy trying, you can host a walk by creating an event and inviting others to join you. Some walks are relaxed local strolls through woods or around lochs, while others might be longer countryside walks, hikes or hill days. There is a real mix, which means there is usually something to suit different abilities and interests.
Many women feel nervous about coming along to their first walk, especially if they don’t know anyone yet. That’s completely normal. Most members join their first walk on their own and quickly find that the atmosphere is friendly, supportive and welcoming. Before long you’ll start recognising familiar faces and making new walking friends.
Why Women Join SWWG
Women join Scottish Women’s Walking Group for all sorts of reasons. Some want to get fitter and spend more time outdoors. Others are looking for company on walks, new friendships, or the confidence to explore places they might not have gone alone.
For many members, SWWG becomes much more than just a walking group. It’s a chance to get fresh air, clear your head, and share the beauty of Scotland with other women who enjoy being outside. Walks can be as simple as a gentle local stroll or a longer adventure into the hills, and there is always a supportive atmosphere where everyone is welcome.
Many friendships have started on SWWG walks, and plenty of laughter has been shared along the way. Whether you’re completely new to walking groups or have been exploring Scotland for years, you’ll find a friendly community ready to welcome you.
