Join Scottish Women’s Walking Group
Scottish Women’s Walking Group is a free community of over 30,000 women across Scotland who organise walks together through our regional Facebook groups. To get started, simply join the Facebook group for your area below and introduce yourself. From there you can browse upcoming walks, chat with other members and start exploring Scotland together.

Select the group for your area to get started. You’re very welcome to join more than one regional group.
What Happens Next
Once you’ve joined your regional Facebook group, you can introduce yourself and start browsing the posts. Walks are organised by members and are listed in the Events tab within the group.
When you see a walk you’d like to join, simply select Going, Maybe, or Can’t Go, and feel free to ask questions in the comments if you need more details about the route or meeting point.
Many women come along to their first walk on their own. The atmosphere is friendly, relaxed and welcoming, and you’ll soon start recognising familiar faces.
Anyone Can Host a Walk
Scottish Women’s Walking Group isn’t like a traditional club and there are no official walk leaders. Any member can host a walk.
If there’s a route you enjoy or want to try, you can create an event in the Facebook group for others to join you. Some walks are gentle local strolls, while others might be longer hikes or hill days. The variety is part of what makes the community so special.
Many thousands of walks have been organised by members across Scotland since the group began.
A Wee Note About Safety
Scottish Women’s Walking Group is a community where members organise walks together. Walks are not led by qualified leaders and everyone is responsible for their own safety, wellbeing and decisions on the day.
If you join a walk, please make sure you are comfortable with the route, bring suitable clothing, food and equipment, and check the weather and conditions beforehand.
Navigation and decisions during a walk are usually a shared effort between those attending, and members are encouraged to support one another and look out for the group.
Most importantly, the aim of SWWG is to create a friendly, supportive environment where women can enjoy walking together and exploring Scotland safely.
By joining walks through SWWG you acknowledge that participation is entirely voluntary and at your own discretion.
